Glorious nostalgia. The comforting cocoon of familiarity, shielding us from tough times and hard decisions. An open window to a world of happiness, filled with laughter and cherished memories. Just like old friends, William Morris holds a special place in our hearts, not just for his incredible talents and philanthropic beliefs, but for the pioneering role he played in developing British design. Loved and appreciated by traditionalists and millennials alike, we are proud to share some of our favourite Morris works, gathered together to celebrate 160 years of Morris & Co. Alongside a new wallpaper panel created to mark this event, is a compilation of 42 fabrics and 67 wallpapers comprising a selection of original and reimagined designs. From 1864’s Daisy to 1924’s Bird & Pomegranate, the launch’s two books also feature a variety of iconic patterns including Strawberry Thief, Willow Bough, Pimpernel and Golden Lily to name a few. Rebecca Craig, head of design for Morris & Co. says, “Since 1861, Morris & Co. has gone from strength to strength, overcoming life’s twists and turns every step of the way. This is an extraordinary accomplishment and we’re marking the occasion with an exciting new wallpaper that captures the spirit of our founder, the master of pattern and repeat. We know Morris was passionate about medieval forms and we suspect this influenced his 1890 Holy Grail tapestry, commissioned by Stanmore Hall in London. Inspired by Verdure, which sat beneath the tapestries, we have created Owl & Willow, a captivating, colourful scene of enchanting wildlife, stylised trees and delicate florals that pays homage to both William Morris the man and his remarkable designs.” As we chart the decades from feature walls to pattern clashes, it’s joyous to see Morris’s legacy live on. We’re bridging generations and creating a coming together of those whose paths may never normally cross, but for whom William Morris holds a special place in their hearts, enabling the freedom of expression and an enduring sense of style.   The launch comprises two books: 160 years of Morris & Co.
