The Antibes Collection, Spring 2022
This spring Studio by Marvic introduces The Antibes Collection, a contemporary collection of 3 prints and 3 complementary weaves taking inspiration from the colors and landscaping of the exotic gardens of the French Riviera and the lustrous glazes of the decorative ceramic tiles.
Reinforcing this distinctly Mediterranean flavor, several of the fabric designs within the collection evoke the collages and stained glass of the French artist Henri Matisse who lived and worked in Nice. Interestingly, Matisse was a keen collector of antique textiles and many of his paintings feature examples of textiles from all over the world from his archive.
The Marvic Design Studio has its own rich archive and in creating the Antibes Collection used two original French printed designs as a starting point. The first Textile is a floral block printed onto line from the 19th century; the second a 20th century resist-dyed cotton with a stylized floral trellis. These vintage pieces underpin the fresh, youthful vivacity of Antibes leading it substance and a provenance directly connected to its French aesthetic.
